{"id":8374,"date":"2024-11-01T17:38:17","date_gmt":"2024-11-01T14:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/optimusenergy.gr\/2025\/09\/08\/stella-zacharia-at-renewables-amp-storage-forum-2024\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T10:52:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T07:52:38","slug":"stella-zacharia-at-renewables-amp-storage-forum-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/optimusenergy.gr\/en\/2024\/11\/01\/stella-zacharia-at-renewables-amp-storage-forum-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Stella Zacharia at Renewables &#038; Storage FORUM 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"8374\" class=\"elementor elementor-8374 elementor-8368\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3527d16 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3527d16\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4340db6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4340db6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the <\/span><b>6th Renewable &amp; Storage Forum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Stella Zacharia, CEO of Optimus Energy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014the largest Aggregator in Greece\u2014outlined the company\u2019s strategy in today\u2019s energy landscape marked by <\/span><b>surplus generation, high volatility, and frequent negative prices<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her remarks, she emphasized the <\/span><b>critical importance of storage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as well as the need to <\/span><b>shift demand<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to hours of high Renewable Energy Source (RES) production, in order to mitigate curtailments and zero pricing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is essential that demand is shifted to midday hours, when RES generation is at its peak, because storage has been delayed and is not growing at the same pace as new solar PV connections,\u201d Ms. Zacharia stressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She highlighted some key figures:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>March 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when the first major curtailments began in PV projects, there were <\/span><b>5.5 GW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of installed capacity in the interconnected system.<\/span><\/li>\n<p> \t<\/p>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, capacity has reached <\/span><b>6.7 GW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, meaning <\/span><b>+1.2 GW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been added, gradually intensifying curtailments.<\/span><\/li>\n<p> \t<\/p>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By <\/span><b>2030<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) projects <\/span><b>13.5 GW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an increase of <\/span><b>+7 GW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared to March 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<p><\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Ms. Zacharia, these figures are significant and call for <\/span><b>coordinated action<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on multiple fronts:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greater investment in <\/span><b>storage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<p> \t<\/p>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enhanced <\/span><b>flexibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in both production and consumption.<\/span><\/li>\n<p> \t<\/p>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Demand shifting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to hours of abundant clean energy.<\/span><\/li>\n<p><\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAll these measures must be implemented in a coordinated manner, in order to achieve the optimal and most cost-effective outcome,\u201d she concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the 6th Renewable &amp; Storage Forum, Stella Zacharia, CEO of Optimus Energy\u2014the largest Aggregator in Greece\u2014outlined the company\u2019s strategy in today\u2019s energy landscape marked by surplus generation, high volatility, and frequent negative prices.
