Solarplaza Summit Greece: Bold bets for the future

Optimus Energy participated in the 6th Solarplaza Summit Greece: PV & Storage, held on 20 November 2025 in Athens, an event that brought together the country’s leading energy stakeholders at a pivotal moment for Greece’s energy transformation. With rapidly growing solar capacity, evolving market rules, and the emergence of large-scale storage, the summit served as a platform for meaningful dialogue on how innovation and flexibility will shape the coming decade.

Our CEO Stella Zacharia joined the headline executive panel, “What energizes Greece’s energy leaders? Bold bets for the future,” engaging in a forward-focused discussion on the operational and strategic challenges facing Greece’s renewable sector. Stella highlighted how the energy landscape has become increasingly complex due to frequent negative prices, heightened volatility, and the introduction of 15-minute market products. She emphasized that these shifts make real-time decision-making and advanced digital infrastructure essential for the modern RES portfolio.

Speaking about the future of operations, Stella outlined how Optimus Energy is expanding its Virtual Power Plant (VPP) to deliver real-time flexibility and smarter control of renewable assets. This includes automated market participation, imbalance minimization, enhanced forecasting, and the integration of flexible demand, an area in which we already hold an active role. She also stressed the strategic importance of collaborating with leading international partners, as access to cutting-edge optimization, forecasting, and dispatching tools is becoming indispensable for navigating Greece’s fast-moving energy markets. Stella concluded that automation, digital readiness, and cross-market flexibility will be central to unlocking the next wave of renewable growth in Greece.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Dimitrios Chatzigiannis, Strategy & Technology Consultant to Optimus Energy, delivered one of the summit’s most forward-looking presentations: “Reimagining solar: How innovation will reshape the future of PV.” His session focused on how solar and storage assets evolve from static generators into live, continuously optimized systems that require coordination, speed, and data-rich digital infrastructure. Drawing on his analysis, Dimitrios described a rapidly transforming ecosystem where distributed resources, aggregators, flexibility providers, and traders interact in real time across multiple market layers. He illustrated how this new architecture demands cloud-native data pipelines, AI/ML-based optimization, and fully automated trading logic to support real-time operations.

A core theme of his talk was continuous optimization, demonstrated through examples of intraday forecast updates, imbalance minimization, and VPP coordination for curtailment management. He showed how battery energy storage systems (BESS) can unlock value across Day-Ahead, Intraday, Reserve, and Balancing markets through advanced optimization.

Optimus Energy highlights that while asset owners may only see top-level outcomes such as energy sales or PPA revenues, the real value lies below the surface: high-resolution forecasting, automated bidding, risk management, 24/7 monitoring, compliance processes, and advanced analytics, all of which are essential foundations for the modern aggregator and trading firm.

Greece’s sustainable future will be shaped not only by capacity additions, but by intelligent infrastructure, automation, and flexibility. The evolving market requires a new operational mindset, one where renewables, storage, and flexible demand are orchestrated dynamically to maximize value and support grid stability. Optimus Energy’s ongoing investments in digital capabilities, partnerships, and expansions reflect this vision and position the company at the forefront of the country’s transition to a smarter, more resilient energy system.

As Greece prepares for unprecedented renewable penetration and deeper market reform, Optimus Energy remains committed to enabling the next chapter of this transition: one defined by innovation, collaboration, and the intelligent use of data-driven flexibility solutions.
